The mark

One mark, drawn once, now held as vector. Everything else in this kit is derived from it. It is never redrawn, retyped or recoloured.

Supersedes Iteration 1’s clear-space rule. Clear space is half the sun disc’s radius — 216 px on the 1156 px master, 18.7% of the mark’s width. Iteration 1 asked for the full height of the disc on every side, which reserved 866 px and left the lockup occupying 40% of its own footprint. Work already laid out to the old rule is over-spaced, not wrong. Settled 13 September 2026.
Master · full colour · transparent

The source form. Use wherever the ground is already the right colour and you can place transparent artwork.

Master on Shore White

The primary form for print and documents. The warm ground is part of the brand — the mark was drawn against it, and it sits far better here than on pure white. Supplied flattened, so it survives tools that cannot place transparency.

White keyline, reversed on Night Navy

For photography, the gradient, and any dark or busy ground. A continuous white keyline runs around the whole silhouette — sun disc, palms and script alike — so the mark holds its shape when the background is doing something. The stroke is 44 px on the 1156 px master, 3.8% of the mark’s width. Settled 13 September 2026.

Clear space · equal to half the sun disc’s radius on every side

216 px on the 1156 px master — 18.7% of the mark’s width. Nothing enters the shaded band: not type, not photography, not another logo.

Minimum sizes

Screen: 96 px wide for the full lockup. Below that, use the icon files.
Print: 25 mm wide. Below that, the icon files.
The Seal is retired (28 Sep 2026). Profile pictures and the favicon use the full logo.

Never

Redraw, retype or trace the wordmark. “SoCal” and “58th Biennial” are drawn lettering and exist only as vector paths.
Recolour, rotate, stretch, add effects, or place on a busy background without the outline version.
Alter the internal spacing, or set the convention name in anything but Montserrat Bold.

02

Variants

One colour for anywhere the sunset cannot go — a single plate, an embroidery, a fax, a stamp. Plus the icon set. Together with the three primaries this covers every surface.

Supersedes Iteration 1 on the one-colour form and the icon. In one colour the sun disc and the water are dropped: flooded in a single ink the disc becomes the mark, the church knocks out to white and reads as a hole, and the script outside the disc falls to a hairline. The favicon is the full logo, centred in a square. Settled 29 September 2026.
One colour · navy on light, white on dark

The sun disc and the water are dropped — a solid circle that size swamps a single ink, and without it the type simply sits above the church.

Favicon and app icons · 16 / 32 / 48 / 64 / 180 px

The full logo on a clear background, so it sits on any tab or tile.

The favicon is the full logo. At 16 px it reads as a warm disc with dark architecture rather than a legible wordmark. That is accepted: in a browser tab its job is recognition, not reading.
Transparent, except on iPhone. The icons have no background. The Apple touch icon is the one exception: it sits on Shore White, because iOS fills see-through areas with black.
03

Lockups

The mark carrying its credits — dates, city, venue, URL and the host parish, composed as one piece rather than assembled by hand each time.

All seven use the same rules: Montserrat Bold, uppercase, navy, tracked, the host credit always on two lines and in navy so the parish’s full legal name reads at size. Nothing here is retyped in use — the whole lockup is placed as one asset. Each is also supplied reversed on Night Navy, and white on a clear background.

Settled 29 September 2026. Lockup H is stacked: the date and the city together on top, the host credit on its own underneath, in navy at a size that reads. G, I and K follow the same order so the set reads as one system. M, the horizontal lockup, is new. Every lockup comes three ways: in colour, reversed on Night Navy, and white on a clear background for photographs.
H · Dates, city, host
H · Dates, city, host

The default. When and where together on top, the host credit on its own underneath.

I · Dates, city, URL, host
I · Dates, city, URL, host

Adds the URL. The marketing workhorse: social, banners, ads, anything a stranger meets cold.

G · Full formal
G · Full formal

Adds the venue. The complete record: programme cover, letterhead, the registration page header.

J · Everything below the mark
J · Everything below the mark

Nothing sits above the sun. For page headers and banners that already carry a headline.

K · With the horizon device
K · With the horizon device

The horizon separates the host credit. Ceremonial: the programme cover and large signage.

L · Compact, host and city
L · Compact, host and city

No dates. Merchandise, and anything reprinted across more than one year.

M · Horizontal
M · Horizontal

Mark on the left, the record beside it. Letterhead, email signatures, website headers, name badges.

Which to use

H — the default. Reach for this unless there is a reason not to.
I — anywhere a stranger meets the brand cold and needs the URL.
G — the formal record, where the venue matters.
L — merchandise and anything reprinted across years.
M — anything wider than it is tall: letterhead, signatures, headers.

Never

Retype any of these lines. Place the lockup as supplied.
Change the line order, the tracking, or break the host credit differently.
Credit the parish as “Saint Andrew Orthodox Church”. It is Saint Andrew Orthodox Christian Church.
Use a lockup smaller than 40 mm printed or 150 px on screen — below that the host credit closes up.

04

Misuse

Six things that will happen if this section is not in front of whoever is laying out the file.

Never stretch or condense

Scale proportionally, always.

Never recolour the sunset

The ramp is fixed: #FFE9A6 → #D25C15.

Never rotate

The horizon is a horizon.

No shadows, glows or bevels

The mark is flat art.

Never put the transparent master on a busy photograph

The keylines fill with whatever is behind them. Use the white-keyline version.

Never use the pre-2026 artwork

Pink gradient, host credit inside the sun, name under the wordmark. It is retired.

05

Colour

Six colours. Proportion is roughly 70% Shore White, 20% Night Navy, 10% sunset — and one gradient moment per screen, not three.

Supersedes the 7 August gradient decision. The layout gradient now ends on Deep Maroon #90294F. The 7 August log recorded it ending on the unnamed #AB284A so that it matched the logo placed beside it. That reasoning no longer applies, because the palette gradient and the logo’s own ramp are different objects: the palette gradient is horizontal and lives in layout, the logo’s is vertical and lives inside the artwork. A layout ramp should close on a colour the system names. Settled 13 September 2026.
#0D0745
Night Navy

Ink, grounds, the drawn line work in the mark. The default colour of type.

#FAF8F5
Shore White

The page. About 70% of any layout should be this.

#FDCE3E
Sun Gold

The top of the sunset ramp. Accents and links on navy.

#FDA04D
Coast Orange

The middle of the ramp. Buttons, with navy ink.

#FB5063
Dusk Pink

The warm end. Use sparingly — it is the loudest colour here.

#90294F
Deep Maroon

The base. Eyebrows and small accents on light grounds.

The palette gradient is horizontal; the logo gradient is vertical. They are not the same object. The palette gradient — linear-gradient(90deg, #FDCE3E 0%, #FDA04D 34%, #FB5063 67%, #90294F 100%) — is for layout: strips, buttons, washes. The logo’s ramp lives inside the artwork and is never rebuilt in CSS.
06

Contrast

Recomputed against the current hexes. The old guide’s figures were calculated against colours that no longer exist and are void.

Two combinations to avoid. Shore White on Dusk Pink is 3.08:1 and on Coast Orange 1.92:1 — both fail for button-sized text. Put Night Navy ink on the warm colours instead: navy on Coast Orange is 9.10:1 and navy on Dusk Pink is 5.67:1. Every button in this kit follows that rule.
07

Type

Four faces and one piece of drawn lettering. Each has exactly one job.

Aa Bb Cc 2027
Montserrat Bold

The convention name inside the mark — and nothing else. It is set once, in the artwork, and never used in a layout. If it appears in a headline, something has gone wrong.

Aa Bb Cc 2027
Oswald

Headlines, eyebrows, buttons, labels. Condensed, so it holds long names at large sizes. Weights 400, 500, 600, 700.

Aa Bb Cc 2027
Poppins

Body, UI, forms, captions. Weights 300, 400, 500, 600.

Aa Bb Cc 2027
Great Vibes

Ceremonial display in layouts only — never in the logo, and never for the SoCal wordmark. Needs 900 px of width to earn its place; below that, use Oswald.

Great Vibes needs room. Below roughly 900 px of layout width its thin strokes break up and its counters fill in. At narrower widths, set the ceremonial line in Oswald 300 instead. It never sets a headline, a button, or the word SoCal.
08

The horizon

Four bars — Sun Gold, Coast Orange, Dusk Pink, Deep Maroon — in that order, left to right.

This is the gradient’s form for every place a gradient cannot go: email, spot-colour print, embroidery, and any rule thinner than about 4 px where a gradient reads as mud. It is four solid cells, never an image and never a gradient with hard stops — which means it survives an email client with images blocked, a two-colour press, and a 4 px web rule equally well. Keep the order. Keep it horizontal.

09

Photography

Southern California at the end of the day. Warm, open, unhurried.

The reference frame

Low sun, palms in silhouette, a horizon that echoes the mark.

Direction. Golden hour or just after. Palms, the Anaheim Resort District, Orange County shoreline, wide skies. People at a comfortable distance rather than posed close-ups. Avoid: midday light, heavy filters, stock-looking crowds, and anything that reads as a theme-park advertisement — Disneyland is a neighbour, not the subject.
Placing the mark on a photograph. Use the plated version. The transparent master’s knockout keylines fill with whatever is behind them, which turns the wordmark to mush over foliage. If the photograph is busy, put the mark on a Shore White panel instead of on the image.
10

Email

Four templates, one structure. Table markup throughout — no CSS gradients, no flexbox, no layout that collapses when images are blocked.

Sunset · invitation

Send 1. Subject: “You’re invited to Anaheim — rooms are now open.”

Sunset · resend

Day 6, non-openers. Subject: “Southern California is calling. Reserve your room.”

Night Navy

Clergy and parish councils. Subject: “With the blessing of His Eminence…”

Shore White

Plain and fast. Transactional and operational sends.

What makes these survive. The horizon is four bgcolor cells, not an image. The button is a table cell plus a VML roundrect, so Outlook keeps the fill and the link stays clickable. Logo alt text is styled inline, so a blocked image lands in Oswald fallback rather than blue Times. The sunset header sits on a #F4B8BE bgcolor, so a blocked wash degrades to a solid band instead of a white hole.
Two rules for the copy. Say rooms or reservations, never “hotel registration” — it reads as Convention registration and generates replies. And the clarifier — “This is the hotel only. Convention registration opens later this year.” — sits directly under the headline, above the invitation copy, where a scanner cannot miss it.
11

Social

Profile picture and channel banners at each platform’s real pixel size. The profile picture is the full master on Shore White (28 Sep 2026). Handle ac2027socal throughout; display name AC2027 SoCal.

Profile picture · 1080 × 1080

Shown in the circular crop every platform applies, and again at 48 px — the size a profile picture actually appears at in a feed.

X header · 1500 × 500

Profile picture and buttons cover the lower left. Everything is kept above and right of that.

Open Graph and Twitter card · 1200 × 630

The link preview on every platform and in every message. Ship it with the site.

Facebook Page cover · 1640 × 856

Mobile crops hard to the centre, so the record sits in a 1090 × 480 safe area.

LinkedIn Page banner · 1128 × 191

The shallowest banner of the set. Sponsors and vendors are here.

YouTube channel art · 2560 × 1440

A television shows the whole frame; a laptop shows only the middle 1546 × 423. Everything that must be read lives in that band, which is why the artwork looks sparse at full size — it is supposed to.

The crop is what kills these. Every banner here keeps its content inside the platform’s safe area, and the profile picture sits well inside the circle every platform crops to. Do not re-crop them, and do not put the logo alone in a banner — a banner that does not say the dates and the city is a wasted slot.
Channels. Live: Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok. To create: LinkedIn Page. YouTube must be a Brand Account — a personal channel cannot be handed to the 2029 host parish. Facebook is the primary channel for this audience and is usually the under-resourced one.
12

Website

The homepage, built on the kit.

ac2027socal.com

Round icon in the navigation, full lockup in the hero, one gradient moment on the page.

The navigation uses the icon, not the lockup. The live site currently renders the full lockup at about 44 px, which is a third of its minimum size — at that scale the name inside the sun is noise. The icon plus a two-line text lockup says more in the same space.
13

Naming & the ask

The words that have to be identical everywhere.

Six strings. Everyone uses these exactly. Nobody invents a seventh. Entity recognition is built on string consistency — search engines and AI assistants decide what this convention is by seeing the same name repeated. Inconsistency is the one error here that is expensive to undo.

No year-first constructions. Not “2027 SoCal Convention”, not “the 2027 Biennial Convention”. Formal name on first mention, short name after.
The ask
Primary button, everywhere: “Get Notified.” It names the benefit, not the mechanic. Above it, the headline “Be the first to know.” Directly under it: “We’ll email you the moment registration opens — nothing else.” Those last two words do more for conversion than any button copy.
Retired: “Subscribe” (sounds like a newsletter, and newsletters get declined) · “Join our interest list” (bureaucratic; implies a queue and a screening) · “Join the Email List” (names the mechanic; “Email List” is the least appealing noun on the page).
Ask for email and nothing else. Collect parish, city and family size at registration, when someone has already decided to come. If a second field is unavoidable, make it optional and make it Parish — it is the only one with real segmentation value, because it lets a parish priest be told how many of his people are coming.
Hashtags
#AC2027 · #Antiochian · #GatherInChrist · #SoCalIsCalling
Use two or three. Never all four in one post.
